The Canadian-owned company Avonlea Traditions has developed dolls with unique Canadian identifies. Each of the four characters comes from a different area of Canada. For example Taryn lives in Banff and likes wilderness camping and painting. Jenna is from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and loves sailing and fiddle music. The dolls and accessories are designed for girls aged 6-12. The Maplelea website has a section about "Real girls doing real things that matter", and currently features a girl from Ontario who speaks out about autism. Site users can nominate girls to win awards for contributing to their communities in a positive way.
